Whilst I have not rowed much recently, I
still have fond memories of freezing mornings on the Cam, lycra shorts and
nearly dying on the rowing machines...
I started rowing at the age of 13, in an
assortment of sculls and proper rowing boats, on bow and stroke side,
coxing, coaching, rowing in everything from Empacher eights through to a dragon
boat that I was steering and broadsided into another crew, sending them
all into the water. Most bizarre though were the 100 year old clinkers with leaky bottoms,
open gates, no slides, and rowing in 18th century naval uniform, wearing
flower-filled hats.... and then standing up in the boat, and putting the
oars up...:

More recently I have discovered whitewater
rafting, which is like rowing on speed. I'd love to do more of this, just
need to find the time.
